: Its just nice to know that I'm not the only one who thought the Z could have gotten 1st in T2. : I knew you hadn't driven a Z for 7weeks at least and a car for that matter for 4 weeks prior (Taiwan). Actually, I didn't drive a car for 2 weeks before OTC, and drove Glenn's at Buttonwillow about 4-5 weeks before OTC. : Also its a big adjustment going from a 5sylinder TTZ (haha) to Glenn's prototype monster. Not to mention the scare of driving TurboZX (not feeling comfortable pushing someone else's car)
I've actually drove Glenn's car at the track about 3 times in the past 5 before OTC. The second half of the drive to Spring Mountain Raceway, I drove Glenn's car. Also, the day before the event, I put in another ~1-2 more hours of driving in. I got fairly comfortable with Glenn's car very quickly and learned the limits of the car pretty fast. : Plus you hadn't been tracking for months and low and behold, Navid was driving every weekend if not some weeks for the pro tour and other SCCA and NASA events. Like I mentioned above, I had been to the track a few times before OTC for practice. We just didn't advertize we were going before hand very much because we wanted the privacy and wanted to stay focused on testing and tuning the car. We also ran it in the autox that you showed up for. Also in the past few months, I hit the local KART track ~once every week, to 2 weeks to freshen up. I found a KART track in Taiwan too to keep me on my toes and fresh. : Given you had only known 4 tracks, there were a lot of variables in the end. And you still were doing what Navid did. Actually, I only knew 3 of the 7 tracks, unlike the Rx7 driver who was at all of them. Navid had been to I think 4 or 5 of them. : There is no doubt that if things held up and you guys had things go more smoothly with better preperation, you guys would have been top 10 in overall finishing and 1st in T2. Actually, we were very very prepared. More prepared than most other Touring teams I think. We even had our own support truck packed with parts and tools, which most other teams didn't have. I walked every track that I hadn't been to, except Willow Springs. I don't think any of our competitors walked a single track. I even walked Buttonwillow just to get even more familier with it. I drove Buttonwillow ~4 times before. Our biggest dissadvantage to Navid was his tires. That alone, would have, in my opinion, made us a #1 contendor. Look at the first track we visited, and compare our TOTAL lap times to T1 and the Unlimited classes. For a track were the majority of the people had never been there before, (level playing field) we fared very very well. Also, compare our lap times for that track to Navids. Very close even with the tire dissadvantage. : Next year. If you guys run next year, I think I'll try to find a different car to run in a different class. I know I'll get my aZZ whooped running against Glenn's car. Unless I get real good at driving a Z again. Maybe I'll buy an SER for OTC 2003. heh : But now if my TTZ can go from stage broke to stage workie, that would be a nice trick. And I really hope that oil gets cleaned up. This is getting too $$$. Major bummer. Good luck Salah.
